“Jazz Camp for Girls”, the project of the new creative initiative KEŞİF, designed in partnership with the founding teams of Bozcaada Jazz Festival, 3dots and Fermente, took place in 2023 November with the participation of 16 girls!

Gender inequality in music production in Turkey and around the world is an important issue for the festival. As we continue our efforts to raise awareness and improve this issue, we actively contribute to sectoral improvement with the “JazzCamp for Girls” project.

Jazz Camp for Girls is an international educational programme that supports girls aged 9-15 to explore improvisation and jazz music in an encouraging environment, and was organised in Turkey for the first time in partnership with KEŞİF. The programme, which started in Denmark in 2014, has so far met with girls in Finland, the UK, Sweden, Canada and Poland.

KEŞİF’s second project, Jazz Camp for Girls, was hosted by Akbank Sanat in Istanbul between 15-18 November with the support of Nordisk Kulturfond and in cooperation with Jazz Danmark. In the workshops led by Kamucan Yalçın and Ömer Vatansever, we encouraged girls to feel free and aimed to provide them with inspiring role models.

KEŞİF is preparing to realise the project in 2024.
