One of the advocacy areas supported by Bozcaada Caz Festival is gender equality. The “Jazz Camp for Girls,” initiated by Jazz Denmark and Copenhagen Jazz Festival in 2014 and later spread to the UK and Northern European countries, focuses on a very important topic for the festival. The Turkey leg of this project, supported by Nordisk Kulturfond and coordinated by KEŞİF, takes place in November, aims to support girls interested in music, increase the number of female instrumentalists in the music industry, and thus achieve a gender balance in the jazz music sector. As part of the event, a conversation will be held with English jazz musician, saxophonist, composer, and women’s and LGBTI+ rights activist Nubya Garcia, a pioneer female musician, supported by British Council’s ‘Creative Collaborations’ grant fund, to contribute to the development of young girls and provide insight into the world of music.
